What Should You Choose? Have you ever thought about how many students graduate from college each year? Graduating from college is a goal that all students should set and strive for. College can be a time when students set their futures and study so that can be successful in life. It can also be a time where struggles more complicated than those in high school come into play. Many students look forward to spending a couple years studying their career choice and someday, having that occupation. Other students get caught up with the struggles of being a college student and decide to leave college. College students make the decision to drop out of college because of their financial, academic, and personal issues. College students drop out because …show more content…
Family emergencies such as a loved one passing away or a parent losing a job could cause the student to feel guilty, resulting in the student dropping out to return home in order to help their family. Personal issues such as homesickness or having doubts about succeeding can cause students to drop out. Some students are driven to being close to their homes. When they leave, they can have second thoughts about the comfort and security of their homes compared to their new independence. Having second thoughts on college can be another reason students drop out. If a student feels like they cannot succeed in college, it can cause them to leave school and return home. A final reason to why students may drop out due to personal reasons could be that they are partying and socializing too much. A national study found that close to fifteen percent of students said they had been injured because of alcohol or drug use, and almost twenty percent had performed poorly on a test because of alcohol use. Students who party or socialize too much are often the ones who do not study enough and when they perform poorly on a test, they end up dropping
