Essay On Athletes Are Overpaid

Imagine you are a hardworking doctor or lawyer, and you aren't getting paid the amount you should be. Other people like you who are bettering our community aren't getting paid the amount they should be, and all of your tax money is going towards paying for athletic stadiums. Doctors, teachers, government employees, police officers, firefighters, and lawyers should be receiving the money that athletes receive. Professional athletes provide entertainment for society, but I believe they receive an unreasonable salary. Overall, athletes are overpaid because all they are doing is playing a game to entertain while other more important professions are making much less, they don't contribute to society, there are better places to use the money, and the money received could be used to pay for more useful causes that would benefit our society. The money they earn could be used to help pay the national debt, go out to people in need, or be used as funding money. Some athletes earn more money in one game than some people will make in a lifetime. It isn't even that hard to make the money, all they have to do is show up to the game, and they are paid. The money that these athletes are paid could go towards more useful causes that would be a benefit to society, such as creating jobs, finding cures for hard to treat diseases, reducing poverty, and offering more educational opportunities. One may argue that a team is a company. This may be true, but this company is using our tax dollars to pay for their stadiums and games. Why should hardworking men and women pay taxes that aren't even helping to benefit their country and society? Our tax dollars should be used to fix roads, improve children's’ education, and to pay off the national debt, not to pay for football, baseball, and basketball games.
