Why Should Animal Experimentation Stay Legal?

Improved Essays
Some reasons why animal experimentation should stay legal is because it helps keep humans alive by helping cure things like diseases and cancer. I really they should cut down on the amount of animals they use every year. When you want to test a drug for side effects animals have similar circulatory systems to humans. DNA of chimpanzees are about 99% similar to humans which would they are ideal for experiments, and mice are 98% similar. Its for the animals too, a lot of them could have died from rabies, infections hepatitis virus, etc. it's also helped keep endangered species from going extinct.

Humans can live up to 80 years or more, which means some scientists would be dead before others results will be gathered. Laboratory mice, on the other hand, only live for 2 to 3 years, giving researchers an opportunity to study effects of genetic manipulation or treatments over an entire lifetime. In some cases, they can continue to study across several generations. This is why mice and rats have been used for long-term cancer research.
Fewer animals are used in research than as food for humans
Compared to the amount of chicken, cattle, sheep and pigs that humans eat, relatively few of them are used in experimentation. With consideration to the medical progress and advancement such tests provided, it is a small

Using rats for toxicity, for example, must not be accepted as reliable since humans are nowhere close to being 70-kilogram rats, according to Thomas Hartung, professor of evidence-based toxicology at Johns Hopkins University. This is further supported by the 2013 study in the Archives of Toxicology that states that the lack of direct comparison of human data versus that of a mouse makes the usefulness of research data

A possible concern is that over 100 million animals- mice, rats, frogs, dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, monkeys, fish, and birds- are used for research and experiments each year. These animals are forced to test poisoning for burning skin, toxicity testing, causing brain damage, and many other horrible tests. The innocent creatures are harmed and sometimes killed in the process. On the other hand, scientists are doing these many different types of tests to learn more about health problems that affect both humans and animals. Since animals are biologically related to humans, it makes them good research subjects.…

When animals are used in medical research, it is great way to uncover the mysteries and find treatments or even cures for various diseases. For example, in Shany Sun’s Young Scientists Journal article, “The Truth Behind Animal Testing,” the author says, “…medical advancements that have been discovered through animal testing include penicillin, blood transfusions, insulin (that controls blood sugar levels of diabetics), kidney transplants, and vaccines for polio and meningitis” (Sun 1). This example shows just how beneficial animal testing in medical research can be. These medical advancements would not have been available for years if animal testing had not…

Experimenting on animals has made an impact in preventing and treating different types of disease, such as cancer. Stuart Derbyshire is an assistant professor at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and a contributor of Animal Experimentation claims, “Without animal research, many of these areas of work will grind to a halt, and all will suffer setbacks causing human tragedy.” Scientist and others that justify these acts, truly believe that human life is depending on the results of animal research. Once again, Stuart Derbyshire states, “We place human wellbeing and health above that of animals and we unequivocally believe that human life comes first.” Even though the life of an animal is important, scientist make sure to put humans before anything…

There are many reasons why animal testing should be stopped. Testing on animals is inhumane because the animals are neglected all of their life, forced into these harsh experiments, they are not given pain reliever and are, if not always, killed at the end of experiments. Animals shouldn’t have to live in a cage all their life, they have a purpose on this earth just like anything else, and that purpose is not to be poked at with…

When it comes to the topic of animal testing, most of us will readily agree that it is a very debatable discussion. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question whether it helps researchers to find new drugs and treatments suitable for humans. Whereas some are convinced that animal testing does help researchers find new effective drugs and treatments, others maintain that some drugs tested on animals are ineffective or even safe for human consumption. In my perspective the results of animal testing are unreliable, because animals and humans are not genetically or anatomically alike.…
