An Argument In Favor Of Abortion

Improved Essays
Nowadays, throughout the world, doctors and medical professionals perform a suction of thousands of babies from their mothers ' wombs through a procedure known as abortion. Today, the law protects and provides consent to both the mother and medical professional to follow through with the procedure. However, the babies seemingly have no right to protection or life themselves because of the argument regarding when a fetus is determined to be human and have a life. Therefore, abortion should be illegal. Knowing abortion is legal within a certain time frame of the pregnancy, it will be practiced more often, instead of considering safe intercourse more often.

Allowing abortion makes people cavalier about relationships and sex. Accordingly, abortion

For instance, there was one this 18-year-old girl, that was not physically able to carry a baby to term without losing her own life due to a serious heart condition. Many people that take this argument seriously have come across scenarios like this one, which has expanded many people 's thinking. Now this young 18 year old is not physically able to carry the child, what decision should this young woman make? Considering the young woman has been diagnosed with a serious health issue whose insurance will not cover a hysterectomy to prevent her from becoming pregnant because of her age. Abortion is just another crime, of killing an innocent human being. Life begins at conception, so unborn babies are human beings with a right to life.Considering the billions of children aborted worldwide, we must question ourselves and take into consideration the difference they would have made if they had been able to live. It is possible that one of the aborted babies could have discovered the cure for cancer, Parkinson 's, Alzheimer’s or any other deadly or debilitating disease? What other contributions to medicine, education, technology, government, or science could these babies have made if they had been allowed to live? Unfortunately, we will never know as their lives were ended before they could ever begin because someone decided they did not have the right to live. Those who chose to have the responsibility to have sex should fulfill it to the end. If you were uncareful and did not take a contraception, it is your fault, and the solution is not ending someone else 's life. Women should not be able to use abortion as a form of

Abortion is one of the most highly arguable and controversial topic. It is an ethical issue that has been discussed and debated for decades. Abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy (citation). Those who defend and stand for abortion are the Pro-Choice group. Pro Choice believe abortion is rightfully a woman 's choice on what she chooses to do with her body. In people’s daily personal lives, situation will not always be black and white. A state cannot simply pass a law that states that abortion is illegal because there are case by case scenario where abortion may be the best option for women. Abortion involves a permanent termination of a fetus, however if the abortion is done before the fetus has begun evolving within the twenty-eight-week period, then abortion should not be criminalized or…

Abortion has been becoming a bigger issue in our world today. More and more abortions have been happening, more people believe it is ok, and the issue becomes a bigger debate. To me abortion is a very wrong thing. Even though the fetus has not been born, it is still a human being and has the right to life. Abortion, whether the person admits it or not, is a form of murder. The fetus’ being killed could find the cure of cancer, change someone’s life, or could change the world. Abortion is overall a horrible thing and it needs to be stopped. Some people might argue that they do not want to keep their baby but there are ways to prevent getting pregnant in the first place.…

As a doctor, I see an enormous amount of teen and unwanted pregnancies. I also see mothers decide to have a baby with the intentions to raise and take care of the child, but sadly, not all mothers are mature enough to raise a baby, and eventually let another family member take the child. In todays world, women who are considering an abortion are forced to decide in just 24 weeks, and some politicians want to shorten that time or even abolish abortion fully. On the other, there are some people who are “pro-choice” meaning the believe the mother has the choice to abort the baby up to 24 weeks. I know of one case that is personal to me. In 1977, when I was attending Yale’s medical school, there was a young lady in a Biology class. We became good friends throughout the semester. Towards the end of the semester she told me she was pregnant and she is not going to return to Yale next semester. Me being a supporter of pro-choice, suggested for her to look into getting an abortion. My friend thought over my advice, and after a few weeks decided to have the baby. Her parents allowed her and her child to stay at their home. As the years went by I always wondered how she was doing. Then one day on my way to my…

Every 107 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted. An average of 32,101 pregnancies result from this each year. Believe it or not, there’s a way to save the lives of all 32,101 women: abortion. As stated by Hillary Clinton, “We’re always going to argue about abortion. It’s a hard choice, and that’s why I’m pro-choice, because I want people to make their own choices” (Clinton). These days, the word “abortion” stirs up so much controversy. It seems like everyone knows exactly where they stand in the matter: they’re either strongly pro-choice, or strongly pro-life. Whether they are influenced by religion, personal matters, or family morals, many struggle to see that there are two sides to abortion. In order to understand where proponents of pro-choice are coming from, people need to see that abortion isn’t just terminating the life of an unwanted, unborn baby. More often than not, abortion is the result of pregnancy due to rape, or the inability to support a child for any variety of reasons. Although many see it as the termination of a life, abortion needs to be an option to save the lives of women who are not able to support a child.…

The ability for women to choose what they believe is right pertaining to their own body is incredibly significant to an individual’s civil liberties. When considering the reasons for choosing an abortion the majority of women believe that they simply cannot care for the child properly. Of course, one must argue that the necessary precautions need to be taken in order to avoid unwanted pregnancy, but in order to understand abortion one must ignore these circumstances and interpret the individual’s reasoning for choosing to abort regardless of how they were impregnated. “Of the women procuring abortions 85% are either not married or not in a significant relationship. The following reasons have been offered by women for the choice of…

In the U.S these are the statistics; 25% can’t afford a baby, 4% have to attend school or a career and don’t have time to care for a child, 8% lack maturity to have a child. 9% have relationship issues, 20% finished with childbearing and don’t want anymore children, 27% are not ready/poor timing, .1% have a rape baby and no longer want the baby, because of that constant reminder, 3% have mental concerns, and 4% have fatal health concerns. Each reason are different, but each are as reasonable and understandable just like other reasons. Some people don’t believe that abortion should be banned, but women who didn’t use protection should be allowed to have an abortion, but why should the right to have an abortion change for someone who believes that it’s the right choice for them? I believe that the constant banter on women getting an abortion and wanting to terminate the pregnancy is discouraging women to make that choice for themselves, because they’re letting other beliefs influence them to change their mind on getting an…

Reproductive rights are the subject of extensive debate in capitol buildings and classrooms alike. In fact, just the other week, a friend and I got into a heated argument over the autonomy of a woman versus that of a fetus. My friend believes that a woman's right to make certain choices- namely abortion- end when fertilization occurs. Conversely, I'm very pro-choice for a variety of reasons. Firstly, I consider myself a feminist and as such value an individual's right to determine their own medical procedures in a higher regard than a fetus. When I hear about the over 200 laws and regulations passed in the three years’ time (2011-13) -more restrictions than were passed in the previous decade (Guttmacher, 2014)- I don't see lawmakers protecting…

Abortion is one of the most disputed topics in the social and political areas today. The two sides for or against are for whether the unborn fetus is taken as a human yet or not. There may be disputes when the child is still a small egg, but does the morality change when it starts to count as a late abortion? That’s when we begin to question our true values. Because of life and death situations, late abortions should be an option for the birth mother.…

The topic of abortion is a debate that was always prominent, but today it is even more discussed due to the upcoming election. Each of the candidates running to become the next president of the United States has different arguments about abortion and whether it should be legal or not. Also, parts of these arguments consists of in what point of pregnancy can abortion still be permissible? A Defense of Abortion, written by Judith Jarvis Thomson supports the right of abortion. She grants the premises of her opponents and then contravenes them through analogies of different situations. After analyzing and evaluating both sides of this debate, I side with Thomson’s argument that her right to life is to not be killed unjustly, and the right to abortion…

Of the several topics discussed so far in this class, this one has certainly caught my interest the most. My personal opinion is that abortion is an immoral choice but not always, depending on what the specific circumstances are. I have a moderate view on abortion which can be defined as, “moderates are willing to morally allow abortions in some cases and not others, but they give different reasons for doing so.” (White 84) People’s opinions are easily altered on this topic especially when it comes to personal experiences. In my opinion, I believe that most of the time abortion is in fact morally wrong, “with some exceptions, including cases of rape, of abortion during the first fourteen days after conception, of threat to the woman’s life,…

The definition of an abortion is the process of ending a woman’s pregnancy by the termination of an embryo or fetus inside the mother’s womb (Pros and Cons Abortion). During the process of an abortion, the unborn child is not treated as a human being. The baby is treated as a nuisance; it is not given the proper care, it is regarded as a nonliving thing (Abortion Facts). Abortion is not the only method to take when a mother is confused by her feelings about the pregnancy for how her pregnancy came about (Arguments about Abortion). There is no reason to punish a child when they have no control of what is going on in the world around them. It is not the baby’s fault if a pregnancy was accidental or unexpected. Abortion should be illegal no matter…

Abortion is a huge problem that has caused a wide range of controversy all over the United States. There are two sides to the problem, which are people who oppose abortion or support it. Abortion becomes a big deal when trying to decide whether a fetus should be considered a human being already when a woman aborts. In my case I believe that a woman should not be able to abort a child inside her unless there is some type of serious medical issue where the child may not come out alive. When a woman aborts a child, they did not want, it is like the killing of another human being who had no say or ever did anything wrong to deserve it. There are other alternative ways a woman has instead of abortion, such as putting the child up for adoption, foster…
