Why Seniors Should Be Changed On College Students

Improved Essays
Seniors have been working their way through high school one stressful year at a time. This last year is the year many starts stressing over college and high school transcripts. They keep their grades above a “C” in order to be exempted from finals. Now, they have been given a new requirement. One that can make it so they have to worry about finals. They cannot miss more than five days the entire semester, even if it was for a medical reason. As someone who used to miss school because they were constantly sick, at the doctors/dentist or in pain, I do not agree with this new requirement. Seniors shouldn’t have to have the exemption requirements changed on them, but since the school won’t change the requirements they should be more lenient on the absences.
Many students that have missed a lot of days have been in the hospital.

One of them has kept their grades up in hopes that they wouldn’t miss the final, but since they missed more than five days they have to take them. The other senior stopped trying to keep their grade up due to the fact they knew that they would have to take finals. Being told that we cannot be exempted just by keeping good grades like the seniors before the 2018 class has discouraged many seniors from trying this school year. They stopped caring whether or not their grades were good if they have missed more than five days.
They do not have a choice if they come down with a virus during the beginning of the second semester. This school year many students came down with the flu and missed at least a week of school, some missed more than that. They decided to not infect their peers at school and stay home. They kept their grades up, and yet they are still being forced to take the finals. All this while hoping that it doesn’t drop their grades, and in the end, they cannot

Have you ever felt the need to take a day off school because of high stress and anxiety levels? Studies have shown that teenagers have recently shown an increase in stress, depression, and anxiety levels. This can lead to poor school performance. Should students have to go to school when they feel mentally unstable or should mental health days be a valid excuse for an absence. It has been proved time and time again, that students are happier when they get the opportunity of having a summer break. Without a summer break students don't perform the best of their ability. The school calendar should not run year-round because students perform better, and extra costs are avoided, however students would have more learning opportunities. All year long I look forward to summer. It's a time to be with friends, have no homework, and be carefree.…

It’s hard to believe that once upon time, Americans did not have the dreadful worries of finding a way to prepare for the financial necessities for college. Now, college is becoming more of a dream rather than a reality as high tuition rates becomes the number one reason why Americans are not advancing themselves into higher education. In some cases, there are college students who receive full-ride scholarships to the college they desire; however, the majority of those who do go to college do not obtain the same luck. Those students who do continue their education and go off to college find themselves short of financial aid, out-of-pocket cash, and even scholarships. This causes students to resort to taking out a student loan.…

The area of gerontology is a growing field that encompasses the socioeconomic study of the aging population. While older generations have encountered many hardships, there are many more they may face as they age. As any student knows, grades are reflective of their accomplishments in a given class. However, grades mean much more to students than whether they know the material or not. Grades mean whether or not someone will get into their college of choice, whether or not they have to retake that class they had failed as a result of an emotional semester, whether or not they are hired for a position against someone who graduated with a higher grade-point average (GPA). Students are under more duress than ever to be academically excellent because of the mounting pressure in the American education system. This pressure is due to GPA inflation and expectations of above-average academic performance.…

Compare and Contrast the views of Higher Education From a general point of view, higher education can be beneficial to some college students. As I compare and contrast the article, “Should Everyone Go To College” to Freeman A. Hrabowski’s “Colleges Prepare People for Life”, I realized Hrabowski’s article has primarily focused on how higher education leads to many opportunities, and does not go in depth on the negative aspects of why college cannot be suited for everyone. In contrast, the article, Stephanie Owen and Isabel Sawhill’s “Should Everyone Go to College” contains both sides of the argument. This article explains how college may not be the ‘right’ choice for everyone because every career path or goal is different,…
