Studies have shown that in order to learn new materials, a person needs repetition. Receiving instruction in a subject such as math four times a week instead of five, could make it harder for some students to grasp key concepts. In addition, many students find it difficult to stay focused for our seven and a half hour school day, and I can only imagine how difficult it would be to remain totally focused on learning for ten hours a day. The ten-hour school day would also theoretically make it impossible for students to maintain the current workload assigned for homework. Teachers would need to assign less homework on school nights, which would probably result in major assignments over the weekend, making it harder for students to spend time with their families. Due to the impact on extracurricular activities and the detrimental effects on a student's learning and progress, the disadvantages of a four-day school week with ten-hour days far outweigh the benefits. Going to school is supposed to help make us better people who are prepared for the life ahead of us. It is supposed to be a positive experience. In order to fulfill that, administrators and the people making executive decisions need to remember this: kids are human
