Persuasive Essay: Should Schools Kill Creativity?

Creativity is a word that is heard throughout our time in school, however as you get older the word becomes less important because it has nothing to do with your “essential” subjects, or so some think. In the video we were asked to watch I could not help but agree on everything Sir Ken Robinson had to say. During elementary school I remember attending a music and art class every other day of the week and it was a chance for all of the students to be creative. Not all children are able to sit in a classroom for eight hours to learn the difference between nouns and pronouns, they need an outlet and for most children they no longer have that after elementary school.
Robinson stated in the video “as children grow we begin to educate them from their waist up and then their

I have never personally thought of myself as a creative person but maybe it isn’t entirely my fault or any other student who feels the same way. As future educators it is our job to teach children material, but shouldn’t we be educating the whole child rather than just their head. If we get children moving, creating, and thinking with more than just their head we could end up finding that we have students who are brilliant, but not in the normal academic way public education looks for. We could discover musicians and dancers and artist if we gave those students an option, instead we rely heavily on how academically prepared our students will be for standardized tests or getting into college; we fail to help them discover their real potential by eliminating their creative

I would like to write a rhetorical analysis examining the TED speech “Do Schools Kill Creativity?” by Sir Ken Robinson. I want to break down the speech and analysis the reasons of why Robinson believes that schools are destroying children’s creative minds instead of accepting creativity and encouraging children to be creative. According to Robinson, “We don’t grow into creativity, we grow out of it. Or rather, we get educated out of it.” I will also be using “Ken Robinson: The Importance of Creativity” by Rusty Lindquist to pinpoint and support the main points Robinson was trying to emphasize.…

Creativity, an essential skill that can simultaneously help advance the world and communicate different perceptions of an idea, has gradually declined since 1990. Original ideas are vital when it comes to problem solving, technological advancements, communication, and much more. If the public worldwide stops creating new ideas, the world will experience a plateau rather than growth in development. In order to boost creativity in the population, it is best to start at the foundation of all skills, school. Supported by a scientific study and personal experience, creative thinking should be taught in school, because without explicit practice of thinking creatively, the mind begins to lose that skill.…

The specific purpose of the speech is to show how creativity is just as important as other academic subjects to a student. The central idea is to inform adults, specifically teachers and parents, on how schools kill creative minds by tapping on the more technical subjects such as Math, Science, and literature. Even within Math and Science, creativity is required in order to grow and move forward. New ideas have to be created for the world to evolve, but with the stifling of creativity, and the creation of a school system where making mistakes can cost students grades, college admissions, and ultimately their future, putting new ideas out into the open can be intimidating. This renders the education system counterproductive and creates leaders and innovators who succeed despite the structure of their education system instead of because of it. Creativity is a defining trait of civilization and should not be…

School kills creativity As Pablo Picasso said, “every child is an artist the problem is staying an artist when you grow up”. The question therefore is “why is staying an artist difficult”. Sir Ken Robinson, a British education and creativity expert, speaker, and a New York Times bestselling author gave, the example of a study that does research to that answer (The RSA., 2010). George Land who conducted the study asked: “how many uses can you think of for a paperclip”. Divergent thinkers will list hundred answers to that question while most people list 15 or less.…
