Why School Should Start Later

Many People have asked, what is the best time for school to start. Should our town start school earlier or later or is it good where it is right now? Well, you have to think how many factors go into deciding this. Will it cost extra money, how will it affect the kids, how will changing it affect bus schedules and after-school activities. Our town has a late school start anyways so we should just keep the time it starts but add more hours to the end of the day this would help students, give more time to learn, and won't cause many problems. To begin with how would having more hours in the day help the students. The time we have the school at now allows all the students the time they need to sleep for the next day. According to an article by Fox News a high school in Edina Minn changing their start time from 7:20 to 8:30 has “improved attendance, decreased tardiness, left kids more alert, and even made them less likely to go to the nurse”. Since our start time is already 8:30 our students will have time to get plenty of sleep. Although the time we start school is okay the amount of time we have in the day is way too little in an article by Nancy Kalish even Paul Reville a professor of education at Harvard said “trying to cram everything our 21st-century students …show more content…
This time would go to making sure they know their material and to that, they would no longer have homework.In an article by Nancy Kalish Paul Reville also said that having children learn at a less frantic pace will “close the achievement gap between disadvantaged students and their better-off pears”. Paul Reville's advice should be taken to help our school. This would result in kids in high school having better grades and getting all the credits they need. In an article by, Fox News it says “when kids were short on credits they would drop out”. So us having these few extra hours would even lower dropout
