It’s no secret that throughout the school year, students and teachers wake up early in the morning just to get ready and go to school- but what if this is unhealthy and actually affects your ability to focus in school? School requires students and teachers to wake up early and arrive on time. This can be stressful and pose health issues, typically related to insufficient sleep. School should start later, because these issues can be resolved with an extended amount of time to sleep and extra time to themselves for students and teachers to complete schoolwork and enable them to discover possible interests.

School at a later time can lessen the stress they get from school. In the extra time in the morning, teachers have extra time to complete their schoolwork. In addition, they can use the time to mark assignments. Part of what causes stress for teachers are marking assignments. After a test, a teacher is expected to swiftly mark an average class of 30’s tests and assignments, which can cause stress. Teachers can also use the time in the morning to plan lessons for the future. This is important, because in order for students to completely understand a lesson, a teacher must plan an efficient lesson. This can also cause stress for teachers, as they must plan it for every class they have and “present” it in front of the entire class. Therefore, teachers are also affected by the early starting time for school. However, work is not all teachers and students can do in the extra …show more content…
Students will have more time to comprehend the lesson and complete in-class work. It is true students have more time to complete in-class work and learn. However, school would be more beneficial if it started later. Teachers and students would be less stressed, and they can complete more work at home. Moreover, 80% of teachers are already severely stressed. If there were more hours of school, teachers would have to plan more. Students may also be expected to understand the lessons more, meaning teachers would assign even more assignments. This would stress students more, and could make both students and teachers drift away from their social life. This supports my position, because more school would stress even more teachers and students than it does already. If school started later, there would be more time to relieve the stress, or complete at-home schoolwork or homework. Although having more hours of school would allow students to complete more in-class work, it would be more beneficial to have school start later. Having more hours of school does allow students to complete their work in class. However, students and teachers would have more time to themselves if school started later. Students and teacher may have a longer amount of time in class if school did not start later, however students are typically assigned homework at the end of class. Early school start times prevent students from getting the 8-11 hours of sleep children and teenagers really need. Some people argue that school should not start later, but I strongly believe that the school 's start time should be pushed back towards 9 a.m. This additional hour will allow students to have a good night 's rest which will increase their probabilities of academic and social success as well as increased health. A well-rested individual is able to accomplish more and have an overall higher quality of life. Does it feel like school starts too early? Why is it that students always seem too tired to function during the day? If it does, it probably means they may not be getting a sufficient amount of sleep, causing poor intended achievements for both the students and the school. This could be avoided if school start times were pushed back. Schools start around seven-thirty to eight-thirty in the morning and last 7 hours. Many students also have extracurricular activities, which issues those students to come home much later than regularly intended. Many people argue that schools should not start later because the kids wouldn’t be able to have time after school for extracurricular activities or work (Weissmann, par. 6). I think it would be better if school started later in the morning. This being it will reduce tardiness to first and second period. People have debated over this question for years now. Studies were taking on teens sleeping schedule and how early they wake up, and the teens need more sleep in general, so forcing them to be up early for school cuts into their sleep time as well as their sleep rhythm, making them less ready to learn during those first-period classes.Schools across america have tried this by delaying the tardy bell to an hour later and their results showed a decrease in tardiness. Studies show the later classes begin, the more academic performance improves. Students will be more awake and alert if they did not wake up so early…

Having the start time of schools rescheduled to a later time can positively affect students’ health. In a study done by the American Academy of Pediatrics, only 13% of teenagers in high school are able to get the recommended hours of sleep of 8.5 to 9.5 (643). When students get more sleep they are not in a rush to get ready and catch the bus or get in their vehicle. When well rested students are in a better mood and have enough time to make or eat a balanced breakfast. The American Academy of Pediatrics also suggested that well-nourished students are less likely to have visits to the school nurse, due to the fact that the nutrients help strengthen the immune system (645). Students will also gain mental benefits with the increase in sleep time. For example,…

Also since school will start later, school will also end later making it just as hard as it does when it started early. However, since school starts later the students can get up earlier and do some to most of their homework in the morning. Students can get up at seven o’clock in the morning and do an hour to an hour and a half of homework before they get ready for school. So, they can go to bed that much early and get up a little bit before school and then go to school. This would allow the students to get their nine and a half hours of sleep required for teenager bodies and brains to function…
