“Yuck! I’d Rather not eat today, that lunch looks disgusting,” is something too often heard from the typical teenage student these days. Food, Food, Food! Kids today are choosing to go hungry at school and barely managing to push through the day. They struggle to keep up with the fast-paced learning rates on an empty stomach. School lunches play a big part of children 's everyday life, from kindergarten to the twelfth grade, two meals a day are consumed at his/her school. We are seeing that now the lunches should be not only appealing to students but beneficial as well, Keeping them fueled up and ready to learn. Now a day running on an empty tank just won’t cut it! Schools want kids more involved; well food is the answer to keep them focused …show more content…
If kids are full they will be more prepared to buckle down and get on to the learning. What if the foods that could be benefiting the children today, that could be making the kids brains more susceptible to the information being taught are simple everyday foods we seem to just overlook, these foods being ones that could easily be grown in your local greenhouse with a little help from an agriculture teacher, or even be found in local farms nearby. The school growing their own produce would not only be ensuring a large variety of more organic options but also that aren 't exposed to many harmful pesticides that could be harmful to the children consuming the lunches making for a safer meal that tastes great. Giving the school complete control to make the garden as organic as possible. Dr. Mercola a nutrition specialist once said, “If you want to boost your brainpower, one of the best choices you can make is to eat more unprocessed whole foods. Real foods are full of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and countless other phytochemicals that nourish your brain cells (and even grow new ones)” (webpage 1) If eating certain foods can induce brain cell production the pace at which students learn and the amount of information the children can retain will make a word of difference in society today. Some examples that Dr. Mercola gave of some food that could boost brain function are Turmeric. Turmeric is a yellow spice that contains the anti-inflammatory antioxidant curcumin. Curcumin has shown to boost memory and stimulate the production of new brain cells.
