Why Religion Is Important To Me

While I have many values that are important to me, there are a select few that truly define my character and what I believe. The values that are most important to me are: spiritual and religious values, music, and belong to a social group. Specifically, my religious faith has enabled me to look at the world through an enlightened perspective while teaching me to trust in myself and religion. Music has always been a form of solace for me; being able to escape stressful situations through music has always enabled me to persevere. Especially during this time, I have had to be more proud of myself than ever before. Being Latino means that I am beautiful, amazing, talented, strong willed, diligent, and never afraid to back down from a challenged. Being Latino means that my blood is the blood of centuries of Mayan people who established a civilization greater than any other. Being Latino means that I am just as capable as those who are ethnic majorities. My color of my skin and name do not define me. My heritage has always allowed me to interact with those who are minorities. I have often been discouraged to perform certain tasks because people think that Latinos are incapable. Being Latino means that my diction can be just as eloquent as the professors and that my intellect is intimidating. My knowledge of the world and my culture are scary to those who are ignorant to a world outside of a monoracial society.
