Why Recess Is Important

Improved Essays
Recess is a must. It is crucial for elementary students. It is just as important to child development as core curriculum is. Recess helps students with physical, social and cognitive abilities that otherwise can not be taught in a classroom. Even though students learn a lot while in the classroom they do not have the attention span to sit and be quiet for a long period of time. Therefore information is lost and not retained. Recess is a great way for students to take a brain break from school and work on other skills not taught in the classroom. Also during these breaks it gives there brain time to retain information just taught. So students will remember more if breaks are given at allotted times that work for the teacher and the students.

Studies have shown that ninety nine percent of students like having a small break during school. When you get to sixth grade in most schools you do not get a break anymore. The only break you get is lunch and students get split up so they still don't get to see their friends. I think that students should get to go out side and have a break to talk to friends, clear their minds, and exercise to stay healthy. My first reason is that students should be allowed to get a break to talk to friends.…
