Why do I enjoy reading you? Well, there were many things that influenced my joy for reading. The main thing that mainly stands out to me is my mom working with me through my younger years. She was always pushing me to learn in fun ways. I could not have even came close to being the kind of reader I am today without her help. My mom's name is Lindee Andrews. She is a thirty-six year old woman with brown hair and brown eyes just like mine. She is about the same height as I am, but a little bit which puts her at five feet and five inches. I was not allowed to go hang out with my friends until I had finished reading my reading assignment from her. Most the time it would go like this. "Mom, Madison and Kenzie want me to come over today! Can I go?" Of course she would reply, "Dez have you finished your reading for today yet?" Whatever I said next would determine if I went and played with my friends or if I stayed home. Most the time I'd say, "Well no, but I'll do double tomorrow!" To her it did not matter. If I had not finished reading, I was not going. This insured that I was not losing my reading capabilities. When I got to third grade my mom and my teachers realized I had a slight speech impediment. For an example, when I would try to say sheet, it would come out seat, or when I would say roller coaster, it would sound like woller coaster. So I was put in speech. Because I was in speech, I always had ample opportunities to read higher level reading. They also taught me how to effectively read. Rather than just skimming over things and getting through it quickly, my speech teacher Mrs. Ray taught me how to dissect what I was reading and really focus in on

As a young child at school, we had the Accelerated Reading Program. It was a program that encouraged children to read various books, and then after to take a quiz based on the books. This program really helped me, because the program pushed me to read more. Jessica Writes, the author of “Why Read? A Letter to a Younger Generation,” strongly believes reading helps to develop the skill of imagination. With reading, one has to develop words into pictures, words into actions, thus allowing individuals to have a broader imagination. However, her argument is that technology is beginning to hinder the imagination in students, and the use of literature could eventually wither away, due to the increase of technology. With technology came the advancements in cable television, VHS tapes, and later on, DVDs were introduced alongside with video rental services.…
