Why Rapists Should Have Longer and Harder Sentencings Every ninety- eight seconds, someone is sexually assaulted in the US, and every eight minutes that victim is a child. Their crime. The rape and sexual assault numbers are going up daily, not only in America, but everywhere in the world. Today I will be pursuing you as to why I think that rapist and people who commit sexual assault should have longer, harder sentencings. I will try to persuade you by using facts about sexual assaults, educate you more about the sentencing that rapist get, and what we can do to change not only the sentencings, but also how we can help end all rape and sexual assault. What exactly is rape? What is the difference between rape and sexual assault? Rape is defined as “the penetration, no matter of how slight… with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim,” according to The United States Department of Justice.
