Why Racism Still Exists

Worldwide genocides, sexism, terrorism; the list of life impacting issues that plague today’s world stretches on. However, amidst this devastating register of problems, many people have forgotten one issue in particular and dismissed it as a situation of the past: racism. Modern people, for various reasons, have virtually forgotten about the still-existent split between people of different colors. Unfortunately, however, this issue still largely impacts our twenty-first century Earth by dividing people and causing needless bloodshed and hurt. I believe that racism harms today’s world because it divides people, causes death and destruction, and many people do not realize that it still exists. First, racism divides the people of the Earth.When people discriminate against minorities it causes a divide in their community and even slows down the pace of society. For instance, when people of a majority treat minorities unfairly the prejudice also works in reverse, causing the minorities to dislike their persecutors. Since many people live in this ignorance, they also do not do anything to improve the way minorities are treated. For instance, in the United States today many think that racism no longer lives simply because an African American president took office. By the same token these people do not involve themselves with improving the lives of minorities because they believe that racism must not still be an issue. Further, some people choose to think that racist difficulties are not really problems. They simply do not want to make the effort of dirtying their hands for the sake of other.
