Personal Essay: Pursuing A Career

I am a person that attracts obstacles, because I seem to always have some giant dilemma sitting in my way; hindering me from being successful. I do not blame anyone (including myself) or anything for the hurdles in my life or academic endeavors. I believe that is it possible to learn to combat some my bad habits when it comes to studying and building a sound itinerary for my academic future. High school did not prepare me for “the real world” the world of working professionals. It did not arm me with the skills necessary to succeed in college and beyond, nor did it direct me to tools where I look for those skills on my own. I accumulated good factual knowledge in the areas of sciences and liberal arts, but no good tools that I can use to pursue …show more content…
It helped me step out of my boundaries in regards to searching for a career that suits me perfectly. I would have never thought to interview someone whose profession I am interested in. As it turns out, the interview part of the assignment was the most helpful one. I did get great use out of the Occupational Information Network, and O*NET Online. Those two tools are incredibly helpful in answering questions that the interviewee cannot answer. They list wages, job openings, and many other important elements that aid in making a decision about whether or not a certain profession is …show more content…
Prior to delving into this assignment, I had this idea in my mind that time is of the essence, and that I should quickly figure out what profession I want to work in. However, now I realize that I will be doing myself a disfavor if I rush myself into finding a career, and neglecting to see if it is a good fit for me or not. I need not speed through the process of finding a career that I would truly love to have. Afterall, I am doing this so I can find a satisfying and fulfilling long-term career, instead of a short-lived ordinary job that I have no interest
