Why Plagiarism Is Bad

Plagiarism is an act of stealing or copying someone else’s work or ideas and taking credit for it. It is an illegal act toward the original piece of work. It sometimes is called an “academic misconduct.” Copying and pasting straight from the source is the most common form of plagiarism from students, and not citing the sources in the paper will result in trouble. Other forms of plagiarism are turning in your own previous assignment as a new one, when you change the words from the other’s work, and when you don’t cite the sources correctly. You need to include your ideas the best you can throughout your work. You should always make an outline of the paper to begin with, to make it easier, less time consuming, and to make it clear where the ideas came from. With planning it out, you avoid procrastinating so you won’t be rushing to get it turned in on time and you won’t have to copy someone else’s work. Citing the sources is one of the most important parts to avoiding it and getting in trouble. You have to make sure the cite is put in correctly by following the MLA format or whichever format you are assigned to use. To avoid self-plagiarism, you have to follow the same guidelines as you would if you were citing someone else’s work, because self-plagiarism is important just like any other. The last thing you should have is a reference page, that includes cited work at the end of your paper. The reference page should also be checked carefully to make sure its correct and in the right format. Make sure to always check for plagiarism before turning the work in because avoiding it is very important for writing a
