Why People Wear Masks: Song Analysis

“I was told when I get older all my fears would shrink, but now I’m insecure and I care what people think. My name 's Blurryface, and I care what you think,” was written by the music artist Twenty One Pilots. Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun, the members of the duo, demonstrate in their song titled “Stressed out” why people wear a mask. Figuratively, the duo explains that a mask is used to hide fear and insecurities from society. Similarly, the mask, in accordance to the band, is ultimately created to camouflage anything that society deems unlikeable. Therefore, it is often that people wear masks to hide their emotions, problems, and inconsiderate thoughts so that they may be accepted into society. To begin, emotions are those feelings which an individual may experience as a reaction to a situation or a person such as joy, sorrow, fear, hate, love, etc. With that in mind, it seems as though emotions are considered to be unlikable to society because it can spoil a person’s character or dampen the …show more content…
These nonverbal reactions seem to be unacceptable to society. A better understanding of what blunt thoughts may be can be described as a quick process that does not possess a filter. As such, an individual’s quick reaction may not take into account what it may do to the other person, additionally the response may not care that a person’s feelings were hurt. For instance, when a blunt expression is said to a person about what bad lifestyle choices they are making, it is considered rude. The person who is rude, may just have been brutally honest, but society rules this as unkind and inconsiderate. Some would see this as admirable, even though it was brutal, but in the end, not all do. Being rude is something that is frowned upon overall, even with the best intentions in mind, so a person hides this often with a
