Decent Essays
Why should people volunteer in their community? Have you ever wanted to help someone in need? Did you ever think that you should give back to people to don’t have enough? Well if you haven't; you should. The reason that people should volunteer their time is so they can meet new people, help people that have less than they do, and they could give back to the community.

First of all, volunteering in your community is a great way to meet new people and make new friends. If you volunteer in some of the places that you are interested in, you are likely to meet people that have the same interest as you. For example, if you volunteer at an animal shelter, you are likely to find people who are interested in animals. If you volunteer at the library,

Volunteering not only helps socially in our communities, but also economically. I believe it helps economically because we could contribute to getting homeless people back in the workforce. In addition, many places that help people in need are more often than not on strict budgets, and I believe if people volunteer than perhaps those locations or agencies wouldn’t have to spend as much money on employees and instead have many rotating volunteers, this could also allow them to use funds for other urgent matters. According to the Corporation for National and Community Service, 61.8 million individuals in the United States contributed 8 billion hours of volunteerism in 2008 alone.…

When a community cooperates and volunteers to make a difference, each person is helping someone else while making conversation and getting to know everyone. Knowing people in your neighborhood enhances the chance of improving the local environment than trying to change it on your own. Communication is essential to a building a strong community because then everyone can put in input on what needs to be changed and improved to benefit all residents…

Many of the organizations that I am involved in, including FFA, 4-H, and LYO, take part in several service projects throughout the year. As a result, I have been involved in multiple community service activities over the course of my high school career, such as taking a week-long mission trip to Nashville, Tennessee this past summer, or just spending an evening during the holiday season Christmas caroling around town. Although some people aren't always willing to give up their time to help others, I believe that an essential aspect of being a member of a community is being willing and able to devote your time to helping others. It helps you develop positive relationships, and it lets the people you're helping know that there are places they can turn to for support. It helps you build up your responsibility, reliability, and work ethic, and it provides community members with a chance to establish lasting connections with one another.…

I do not believe that all United Sates citizens should be required to to preform at least one year of community service by the time they are thirty years of age. Forcing someone to help when they aren't willing can do more damage than good. If the person does not want to help they shoulfnt be forced to do so. Volunterring comes from the heart of the person, if their heart is not it, it will not be benificial to the people receiving the help. Most people tend to volunteer at churches, food banks, schools and even in the fire department.…

An elderly woman who got to take part in a high school community service project states, “Many think that volunteering is all about what you give. But what catches you by surprise is how much you receive in return.” This demonstrates why many people do not feel that they should give back because they do not believe the benefits that they can get from it as well. Consequently, when creating that feeling of happiness and satisfaction in someone else’s life, it comes back to the person creating it. Volunteering to help someone get tutored, help the handicapped, involve themselves with a program like Meals on Wheels, certain environmental work, etc., not only does one gain from that, but one’s community has been helped because of them.…
