Does owning a dog has health benefits on children?
You may have heard that bringing a dog home may not be the best thing to do especially if you are soon expecting a child. You might think that the dog being inside the house can cause health issues on your children because of their fur for instance. However owning a dog can lower the development of allergies on children, it can lower the risk of respiratory problems, it increases physical activity, and owning a dog can teach children about responsibility and care.
Many studies have shown that kids growing up in a home where there is a dog, will have a lower risk of allergies and asthma. A researcher named James E. The kids can learn that their dogs need to be fed in order to survive and therefore they will know that they need to feed their dogs on a daily basis just like they get fed by their parents. For example the three year old that I babysit knows that every morning and night their dog ‘Bandit’ needs to eat, so she reminds me to feed him, and majority of time I let her pour the food into his dish. The dogs also need to get walked or need to put on a type of physical activity, also they need to get washed, and many others things. Parents can teach their kids about all these responsibilities of having a dog. The children can learn that there are pet-care chores that need to be taken care of.
