Whether or Not America Should Make the Shift to Renewable Energy? The concept of a shining future fueled by an infinite cache of energy has existed for ages. Yet, in the current year of 2015, that concept is still far from being a reality. Many countries around the world are still highly dependent on fossil fuels in order to meet their daily needs. Why, in a time full of ever advancing technology, is this the case? Should America make the shift to renewable energy a priority? Opinions vary drastically from numerous types of sources. Everyone from politicians to scientist to activists seem to have something to say about energy. Which is not surprising since humans need some form of energy to survive, infinite or not.
However, first it is important to back track to another question. What constitutes renewable energy versus fossil fuels? Fossil fuels are defined as, “non-renewable, that is, they draw on finite resources that will eventually dwindle, becoming too expensive or too environmentally damaging to retrieve” (Importance).
