Why Nursing Program

Decent Essays
The nursing program is not an easy program; however, mentally preparing myself will better prepare me as a nursing student. Understanding that studying will take approximately 25-30 hours a week means that I will have to study for about 4-5 hours a day. At home, I have full access to a computer and the internet to help me further prepare myself for my studies. Since my current work schedule is flexible with my working hours, I am able to take time off for my studies and prepare myself for test and/or exams. My family is very supportive and is understanding about my school work and always encourages me to try my best in school. Although my family is very understanding, I will dedicate at least one day of the week for spending quality time with my family. Because I do not have a child of my own, finding a reliable child care provider is not an issue for me.

In my perfect world people would live healthy lives; they would always pick the healthy option rather than the cheap more convenient one. Free clinics would be more readily available for the homeless or less fortunate. The public would be interested in precautions on how to prevent the spread of diseases and illnesses. Realistically this is a challenge that our world faces and is one of the many reasons why I want to pursue a degree in nursing. My desire to enter into the medical field and become a nurse stems back to when I was an adolescent; I can remember watching Dr. 90210 do multiple surgeries on patients and I can just remember myself saying “I want to be able to make people feel good about themselves, no matter what.”…

Nurses graduated at the baccalaureate level seems to be the target for hospitals since nurses at this level of education have stronger backgrounds in different areas such as leadership, research informatics evidenced based practice and critical thinking skills.…

Nursing programs like the one offered here at Breckenridge, are designed to prepare and educate nursing students like myself to become well-trained Registered Nurses (RN). Before I can become an RN, I will be required to complete the rigorous program set forth by Breckinridge. Compared to any other training I have received in the past, my nursing student success relies upon not only my ability to adapt and overcome various situations presented but also on adopting good study habits. According to an article by American Nurse Today (2010) “Nursing school can cause a tremendous amount of stress, which may lead some students to drop out. Dropout rates for community colleges can range from 18% to 20%” (para. 1).…

“Some things that will turn people away are sickness, burnout, shirft work, long shift hours” (“utah.gov”). Like the shift hours may turn people away because they have to work at night or on the holidays. Nursing, from the perspective of a first-year nursing student, is a profession that is underestimated. Nurses are the backbone of all health care facilities; without them, quality of care would greatly decrease. Through the influence of maternal figures in my family, along with an inherent interest in health care and a strong desire to care for others, I was drawn to the profession of nursing. However, a nurse requires more than merely an interest and the desire to care for others. During my first few months as a nursing student, my understanding of nursing, or lack thereof has come to light.…
