Why Nursing Is A Timeless Profession

Nursing is a timeless profession. The uniforms have changed and there are new treatments every day, but the drive to help someone regain health remains at the forefront. Being a nurse for me involves joining in a historical, timeless job that has been around for longer than I can imagine. There is honor in this career choice and it’s not only thanks to the profession itself, but also the men and women who are brave enough to accept the role that being a nurse requires. I’m not saying the career is a horrible, but by no means would I say its easy work. Nursing at times is equally overwhelming as it is rewarding. It can bring great pleasure or complete heartache. There are mild days but the extreme days will always stand out, those jaw dropping wonderful days when a patient walks for the first time with a new prosthetic, or the days you lose someone despite every effort to save a life. Those are the days that make this line of work a challenge and a gift all at the same time. You need to daydream of their progress and potential, and show them you believe in them. Be disciplined and professional, but soft-hearted at the same time. The list of what it requires is longer than this paper will allow and those skills take an entire career to perfect, but there is one skill you need instinctive to be a nurse in my thoughts. You must have a want to help others, the willingness to go a mile for someone else without accepting even an inch in return. It is a pureness of heart, and good intentions that is an important part of being a nurse. Learning to handle the stress, communicate with management and rules and regulations can all be taught, but the willingness to give 100% should be ingrained for the rest to be
