Sykes explains how Trump attack “dishonest news” which he believes “they have shifted the paradigm of media coverage, replacing the traditional with their own”. Sykes goes on by saying Trump enemies are bait for his administration “Whether they are foreigners, refugees, international bankers or the press”. They have played a major role for Donald Trump, which helps him isolate himself from criticism and allow him to create his own stories.

The authors says a group of Conservative talk show hosts and himself open the doors and was part of the cause that allowed Trump to lie. Which if it was me I’ll be pretty upset. Then he goes on saying the news media was a “spectacular failure throughout the rest of the paragraph he bashes Trump. That shows the anger and disappointment he feels. Lastly, Trump himself what he is labeled as is an example of pathos. For a example, during the election a video was released of a conversation between Trump which he made about women. According to CNN second debate, Trump said “when

you’re a star, they let you do it," Trump says in the recording. "You can do anything." he described kissing women without consent, grabbing their genitals. Bragging about sexual assaulting women. He calls that “Locker Room Talk.” This is example of pathos because it sends of a sense of emotion to all women. How a man can brag about assaulting women and be okay with it. In today’s society where all information is sold through the media, the truth is vulnerable to being manipulated to sell. Media outlets often think along the lines of truth being secondary to drama or success. Through the satirical episode of ‘The Siege’ from the show ‘frontline’ by Rob Sitch and the Simpson’s episode ‘Homer Badman’, the concept of the truth is explored that the media does not care about absolute truths and is fabricated and manipulated to sell stories. In ‘The Siege’, Sitch uses satire to portray the fabrication of ruthlessness of the media in getting the shots and lines that they want in order to get a story, going as far as disregarding police and putting the children in a siege situation in danger.…

Donald Trump fueled the alt-right, which is a mix of rightist online phenomena including everything from 4chan to neo-Nazi sites and stimulated the online culture wars (Nagle 11). The way in which Trump could put out many different tweets showed those on the extreme level that he did not have to say things in a certain way and many people agreed with the way in which he handled things. This was especially true with Roosh V, a pickup artist and neo-masculinist, who wrote a series of books in which he went to different countries to find different strategies to manipulate and coax women to have sex (Nagle 89). Roosh V saw Trump’s victory as a win for his movement saying, “we now have a President who rates women on a 1-10 scale in the same way that we do” (Nagle 90). This shows that people would take some of what Donald Trump would say to the extreme and in turn create papers, series, and online memes that could potentially cause a conflict with others including liberals and feminists.…

The President does use pathos the most, accessing all citizens’ emotions and sense of patriotism to convince them to re-elect him. For example, when summarizing all of Rumson’s horrible actions, President Shepherd says “[...] you go on television, and you call her a whore” (Sorkin). President Shepherd’s use of the word ‘whore’ reveals his effective use of pathos, as shown by the reaction of our class, along with the audience ’s stifling silence.…

Summary The article “After the Fact” by Jill Lepore examines how easily influenced society is in terms of distinguishing what is actually true and what people tend to perceive is the truth. The main argument of this article outlines the idea that “the place once held by “facts” is being taken over by data” (Lepore, 2016). In the article, she also argues that citizens are easily lured by claims made by politicians, rather than reasoning with their own judgment. For example; she states that “Trump doesn’t reason”; he calls people liars and since no one can prove that those individuals are not liars, it can be claimed that he is telling the truth.…
