Why Mitosis Is Important

Mitosis is cell division that results in two daughter cells with each cells having the same number and kind of chromosomes as the parent nucleus, typical of ordinary tissue growth. When things go wrong in mitosis, it causes mutations. Mutations prevent the cells from being what they need to be and doing what they need to do. Cells can produce too many proteins or it could not produce the protein that tells the cell to stop dividing, so the cell can keep dividing and not stop. Mitosis is the most common form of cell division. Mitosis is necessary because cells wear out, die, and need to be replaced. New cells are also needed to repair damaged tissues. New cells allow a body to grow. It is mitosis that makes it possible for new skin tissue, bone tissue and muscle tissue to be made, and the only source material is other cells. Without the process of mitosis there would be no cancer. Cancerous cells ignore or override some of the control measures of this type of cell division (Out of Control Cell Division). Cancer patients lose their hair during treatments because the chemotherapy and radiation is supposed to stop the growth of rapid dividing cells. It doesn’t matter if it is healthy cells or non-healthy cells. Hair follicles are some of the fastest growing cells in the body. So, therefore the patient lose their hair. …show more content…
