Separation of powers and a proper legal are some of the components in an effective government. However in William Goulding’s, Lord of the Flies, when the boys crashed on the island, they failed to create a government that supports themselves. They had a good start but as rules were broken and people not doing what they were supposed to do, the government slowly collapses. The boys fail to govern themselves due to the lack of two essential components of an effective government, a proper judicial system and the leader does not take advice from wise and smart advisors. One reason why the boys fail to establish an effective government is due to the fact that the leaders do not listen to wise and smart advisors in their group which, Voltaire, a French philosopher, believed is crucial in …show more content…
When Ralph was elected chief he never created a rule that stated “the conch doesn’t count on top of the mountain”, so Piggy did have the right to speak then. But, Jack yelled “shut up to him” and Ralph did not say anything to him. he was silent the entire time. If Ralph had given the proper punishment to Jack then he would been helping out more with keeping the fire, building shelter, and being kind to others. The theme in the Lord of the Flies is there is savagery in all of us. Humans in their nature are always selfish and cruel and want everything to themselves. Ralph did not follow Piggy’s beneficial ideas which later lead to him making idiotic decisions. He also didn’t have a proper punishment system which later lead to Jack not following the rules and starting his own tribe. If the boys created an effective government they could have prevented the death of two
