Why Lying Is Wrong

Improved Essays
Is lying really wrong? Yes, it is. Lying is most of the time very wrong, because you lose trust in people you are close to. Who lies the most? Teens. How can we learn from teens? I think we should pay close attention to how teens lie to their parents. Loretta Ragsdell’s article, “Teens Do Their Share of Lying” talks about real life teenagers who lie to their parents to get out of trouble. This article includes a quote from a teen named Debra. Debra says, “Now, the truth is I’ve been over to my boyfriend’s house, or somewhere else, I should not have been, so I lie,” (par.7 Ragsdell) Teens like Debra think it is normal to lie to your parents, she says it so comfortably. But if you lie to hold a relationship, you shouldn’t be in that relationship, you’re just hurting your mom, dad, brother, sister, cousin, whoever it is you’re hurting them as well as yourself. If you lose how close you are to a person because you told the truth, then they don’t accept the real you, that or it was your fault you messed up. They can’t handle the truth, that’s what I took from Blanton’s interview. In conclusion, lying is bad and can ruin a relationship. People rely on others for help which starts from trust. Next time you lie, think about how the consequences can not only ruin your relationship with another, but as a result it hurts you

Studies show that lying is sometimes acceptable in certain situations to prevent any harm that can be brought on an individual. Lying to protect an individual secures the situation by sugar coating a lie that is being performed. Misleading someone can cause harm such as trust issues and that reflects badly on the person who is lying. Lying must be taken into consideration when it could protect one another. For Example, in the article “It’s the Truth: Americans Conflicted About Lying” by Randy Cohen says, ¨In the AP-Ipsos poll, 65 percent of those questioned said it was sometimes OK to lie to avoid hurting someone's feelings.”…

I think you should not lie for your own gain nor anything else that can cause harm, the whole moral is that you should not really lie. You shouldn't be allowed to lie for your own gain.…
