Victims of Unofficial Discrimination
Nowadays, many people, especially the young generation, want to change their appearance for many reasons, such as to be more attractive or to have better results from job interviews. I think our society or environment makes people change their appearance by doing plastic surgery even though they might suffer from pain that is brought by the surgery. From my experience, most of my friends did plastic surgery rather than maintaining natural inherited appearances. In our society, the concept of “lookism” is considered the most significant because the concept applies to every aspect of the society since people naturally have prejudice between relationships due to the appearance. It is true that the society is favoring the people, who have better appearance, and there might not be official discrimination due to the protection of decent law, but there is unofficial discrimination that will exist in the world as long as there are people with their own characteristic. Also, there is not really “ultimate beauty” since the idea really depends on people’s taste, and everyone has slightly different tastes, or different perspectives of viewing things. The taste can also be affected by one’s own experiences or by the emotions as well. What does it mean? I think everyone has pros and cons, and also their own specialties and own charms that are dragged by the person’s characteristic. Nothing can be favored by everyone in this world, and then it also means nothing can be hated by everyone as well. Some people might not like you, and some might think you are unattractive. However, that means some other people might like you, and they might think you are attractive. In other words, I think people should try to find and develop their very own natural attractions instead of just trying to change physical or outward appearance. It is true that the society is the one that is indirectly forcing people to have better appearance, but I do not think the society or culture are valuable enough for you to concern about harming and eliminating your very own characteristic or attraction that you will never be able to find out after when you have changed it, and also the change definitely does not worth risking
