I walk up the stairs with a backpack that feels like there are bricks inside that belong on the side of a house, wishing that I had enough time to go to my locker between my classes so my backpack wouldn’t weigh so much. I have no time to go to the restroom either, so I plan on asking in class to go. I hope that I that I don’t miss Mr. Chesterton go over the study guide while I’m in the restroom. At Awty we must extend time in between classes kids don’t have enough time to get books from their locker, when kids are rushed there is a higher chance that you will forget a book or bring the wrong book, lastly, kids do not have enough time to go to the restroom and will ask during class time and miss class time.

A fellow student and friend of mine named Oliver says “I forget at least one book a day to bring to class. Also, I feel rushed during these passing periods.” I have seen this happen many times before and it is very common. If you do bring the wrong book, usually you would ask the teacher to go get the proper book from the locker and you would miss part of class. If the teacher does not let you go get the book you won’t be able to participate in class so you would have to catch up if you didn’t understand what they were talking about in class. I believe that teens should not have a curfew because if they do have a curfew it is taking their freedom away for one. For two it cause a lot of issues with teens rebelling against the law more so than they already do. For third, it would be wasting the time and resources of the police, and the cops probably have more important things to do than arrest or fine a teen for being outside. Freedom is the very foundation of this country and is the God given right to all living things on this planet. If you try to take someone's freedom and then punish them for it, it goes against our very commandments because they are here to remind us of our past and how our country is supposed to be a sign for freedom.…

Year after year, students at West Islip High School are absolutely distraught when they get their schedules in the summer. This year, as well as previous years, many students had to go to their guidance counselor and change things before the school year even started! Still, others waited until the first day, or even the first week before requesting changes. Some students reported having multiple gym and lunch periods, while others had classes in their schedule that were supposed to be every day, but they only had these classes every other day, making it nearly impossible for them to keep up with their peers. These students had to leave these classes, no matter if they liked the class or not.…

Some high school's districts grappled because the school's sports schedules would be infected by starting the high schools later. That was a central worry to some of the school districts. They came up with an idea that the high school students agreed to shorten the number of minutes they take to get from one class to another, it was called passing time. The result was that high schoolers could start school later but end school at about the same time, without disrupting the athlete's schedules. Teachers especially wanted to change because they were concerned about student's attendance and student's readiness to learn the first period of the day.…

Dear Edmonson County school board members, Have you ever wanted to stay in bed just a little bit longer? That’s how most teenagers in America feels right before school. A new controversy has emerged: should school start at 9:00 a.m. or stay the same? Not only are these kids losing precious opportunities to learn and expand their knowledge, they are failing to take chances that would help them achieve their future goals. Is this how a flourishing classroom should look like? Unfortunately, this is what happens every day in many schools all around the United States because kids are going to school drowsy and restless. Therefore, I believe schools should start later in the morning.…

It is a California Distinguished School and yet, it doesn’t seem worthy to be acknowledged. The school enforces the rule that there are no backpacks on campus. Mrs. Price: Next semester the high school teachers would like to put in place a leave pass system as a way to decrease instruction interruption and increase student learning. The leave pass system is designed to help keep students engaged and in class more frequently. It will also be used as an accountability system to help students recognize the expectations of the five-minute passing periods. At this age, it is important for students to understand the significance of class time to their education and to use the time provided to them already to use the restroom, get a drink, and get any necessary items or materials for their upcoming class.…

Students should not drop out at early age or at age 18 for many reasons. Dropping out means leaving a school, college, university or group for practical reasons, necessities, or disillusionment with the system from which the individual in question leaves. Students that drop out of high-school are generally those that struggle to engage behaviorally and/or academically. Although, it is not entirely clear whether different types of contextual or self-system variables affect student’s engagement or contribute to their decision to drop out. According to data collected by the national education longitudinal study of 1988,Rumberger found that students with moderate to high absenteeism, behavior problems and having no school or outside activities were highly predictive of dropping out.…
