Most children are taught at an adolescent age that they must go to school to gain the opportunity to have a better life. A better life in the eyes of most is the equivalent to having a lot of money and being able to use it to live. When parents are providing the essential needs for a working-age teen the money obtained from a job gives a false sense of successfulness even at the current minimum wage amount. Dr. Henderson, professor of economics at the Naval Postgraduate School, states “With fewer jobs to go around and a greater number of dropouts, some newer dropouts take jobs from the less-educated and lower-productivity teens who had already left school” (Henderson, “Minimum Wage Will Not Reduce Poverty”).…

There are different standards of 'child work ' everywhere and therefore, it is not practical to have one set way of viewing children. In Westernized cultures, which is a term that refers to, social norms, ethical values, traditional customs, and beliefs of a society, there is a law in place for what the minimum age of work can be, and it is unfair to say that no matter where you live you cannot begin to work until you reach that age.
