Why Kids Need Social Class

Improved Essays
I believe that the school need to require a social skills class for it’s students. I think a social class for kids would better help them with basic conversation, confronting other people, and talking to people outside of their own social circle.

One reason kids need to be taught social skills in class is because they don’t know the fundamentals of a basic conversation. There are a lot more socially awkward kids now than any other time because all kids know how to do is text. texting does not show emotion (besides emojis) and so kids don’t know how to handle when their peers show emotion directly to their face. How many times will people hear “my boyfriend broke up with me over text”, or “she sent that message to me and now I’m not talking to her.” Kids need to know how to have difficult conversations face to face, because that’s what the real worlds like. A boss doesn’t text you that you're fired. People get called into his office and he sits down and talks to them. If kids don’t practice having tough face to face conversations now, they are going to get metaphorically slapped later in life.

When kids want to make plans or go on a date, they often text or snapchat each other. This causes much confusion, and since texting doesn’t reveal emotion like talking does, it’s easy to think that someone doesn’t agree with you or is just being plain mean. Kids need to know how to sit down with each other and brainstorm ideas. They need to know how to let down ideas while still being polite. “I don’t think that will work, but it was a good idea.” can be translated very differently depending on the tone that someone is using. It’s very easy to mistake if someone is being sarcastic or sincere via. text. Kids won’t be able to text their boss, “Can I hav a promotion plz? ;D” like they text their parents, “Can I hav ten$ plz?

Throughout the essay of Does texting affect writing by Michaela Cullington, she has many repetitions on how when it comes to texting, many people feel that you lose your sense of emotion or even to display or write emotion. Many people display their emotion throughout text with small sideways smiley faces and some people think that isn’t a proper way to display emotion because when it comes to trying to express your emotion in writing with proper usage of grammar and format, it is not looked upon to use symbolism as such a smiley face. Another thing that comes up very often is neglect of formal language. Many people who text often have gotten used to not having to text or write formally over the phone to their friends or family so they neglect…

Life would be pretty difficult if we didn't have the intelligence to solve problems or the social skills to communicate with others. In the novel An Abundance of Katherines by John Green, one of the struggles that the main character, Colin, faces is not being good with people. Despite his social issues, Colin is an academic prodigy, meaning he has more advanced intellectual skills than most people his age. However, even though Colin is very intelligent, he quickly learns that he doesn’t communicate well with other people. His best friend Hassan, who he met through his inadequate ability to communicate with his classmates, even has to tell him when he goes off on a tangent about something uninteresting by saying, “Not interesting.”, because Colin doesn’t understand what other…

During his time in prison, Adolf Hitler wrote that people should, “Be proud of...people when [they] don 't have to be ashamed of [their] social class.” Social class has always been an issue in the world, and one of the largest separating factor between people. As Ellen Brantlinger wrote in her novel, Dividing Classes, “Social class divides how students participate-or do not participate-in activities, and it influences peer acceptance and rejection.” Participation in school activities have a very large effect on a person’s life, and social class can diminish this effect. However, some schools have constantly been underfunded, some schools have been well overfunded, and some schools have been barely holding on to their debts.…

The last goal that our elementary and secondary schools could equally and especially focus more on is “Social ethics, both behavioral and abstract, to facilitate compatibly with others in this society.” Students of all ages should be taught these skills because they are imperative to excel in almost any aspect of life. Students are rarely taught in school how to properly shake someone’s hand, how to prepare for a job interview, or how work harmoniously with others. Our education system should require a course dedicated to teaching “social ethics” and “soft…

Philosophy Statement I have chosen to work in this field because I believe that early school years are the most significant in a child’s life as they lay the foundation for future education. True education is one that brings out the person’s potential. Education should encompass the whole child—intellectual, social, emotional and physical aspects of his/her being. Being a preschool teacher involves a true love for the career and working with children. "…

How does School and the Media Affect Women and Social Classes? As we surf the internet, scrolling down our social media page or watching the television, we are bombarded by numerous companies trying to advertise a new product. Sometimes we might see an advertisement that is overly sexualized, exploiting a female’s body so as to catch new customers. Advertisements such as those for a perfume might place a male figure in a leading role, which at times could be portrayed in a negative, controlling manner towards women. Sometimes, companies might use television shows to get people’s attention, by getting a well-known public figure to help brand their product.…

Social groups that are separated by economic status and racial classification damages how the narrator develops his identity because he is trying to assimilate into his environment by hiding race and financial instability. Categorizing people into classes affects humans and leads them to conceal themselves when trying to fit a mold or live up to someone’s standards and/or expectations. As the narrator is introducing his story, the reader can conclude that financial and racial class plays a big part into how the narrator views himself and the people around him.…
