For the most part, justification is an act, but it’s also an act that continues and stays with us forever. When Jesus died on the cross, when He gave up His spirit, ‘Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit’ . This is when the ‘act’ took place, it was instantaneous. It wasn’t before or after and it wasn’t by something we did. It was all a free gift from God the Father. He offered up His One and Only Son as the perfect sacrificial Lamb for our justification. He did this that we might believe in Him and receive the eternal life that is offered as a gift for our faith. Now since the act of justification happened at the cross, it is up to us to reach out and grab it for ourselves. God is offering it up to anyone who will receive it. Meaning that as a person, we are not justified instantaneously until we reach out and receive it unto ourselves. But once that happens, it is instantaneous for us individually. Once we receive it, we do not have to wait for some switch to be flipped or turned on. It just happens. It does not grow in us, it is not gradual, but it is continuous in that it stays with us wherever we go and no matter how old we get it never
