A lot of weapons that were used, we designed. For example, we created the machine gun which is the first rapid-fire automatic gun. Although, we used cloth belts to hold the bullets as they went through the gun, it would become overheated very quickly and would take awhile to cool down. There is a space of land between our trench and the other side, it is nicknamed No Man’s Land. This land had terrible grounding and was very hard to navigate through, but the British found a way around it, Ernest Wition, created a tank. The tank is able to drive over any terrain and you can put a machine gun on top to fire down on your enemies. There were 17 different poisonous gases created during this time. We were the first to use them and it was a surprise to the other side. The most deadly poisonous gas was the “mustard gas” it caused coughing, blindness, skin blisters, lung damage, and even death. Eventually, there were masks that were designed to prevent the gas from harming you, otherwise we would just pray that it rained that night to clear out the gas. Some of the higher ranked soldiers came up with the idea if creating U-Boats, which were submarines to torpedo any ship that we believed would be sending supplies to the other side. I guess you could say that we were harsh, but what needs to be done will be done. We would launch bombs from our trenches or our line and didn’t care who
