On page 89 Kino’s music of the pearl used to be a lovely melody, but now is " distorted and insane " and the pearl is now " gray and ulcerous.” This shows greed is a destructive force because greed had changed his view on wealth and selfishness. Also, when Kino throws the pearl back into the ocean, the song of the pearl drifted away.
