Andrew Carnegie was a Scottish-born American industrialist who made millions in the steel industry and later in his life became a “major philanthropist” (History.com). Carnegie was one of the leading figures of industry of America during the 1800s turning him from a poor young boy to one of the richest and most powerful tycoon of his time. As he aged, he sold his company to one of his competitors and turned into a millionaire, probably the richest man of his age. Despite of the hardships he had as a young boy, Carnegie used his childhood experienced to become the determined, business-hungry magnate he turned out to be. Determination was the driving force behind Carnegie’s success.…
Of course people will say that Rockefeller was greedy, and he shouldn’t have as much of the money he had, but he worked hard for it and helped people in ways often not thought…
He kept his family happy and healthy, had many friendships and enjoyed his life fully. Samuel Hamilton is successful because after his death, he was remembered. “Was he loved or was he hated? Is his death felt as a loss or does a kind of joy come of it?...try so to live that our death brings no pleasure to the world” (412-413). Though most people desire money, one does not need money to be wealthy given that life brings happiness on its own time.…
The Captains of Industry, to some, are considered amongst the first men to “build” the America we live in today. In my opinion, that is exactly what they are. Rockefeller, Vanderbilt, Carnegie, and J.P. Morgan were innovators, but above all they were businessmen. Although most people see them as “robber barons”, the things they did was to some point for their personal wealth as well as for the good of this country. What most people don’t see is that what they did played an enormous role in developing America.…
Libraries cost money to build and maintain, regardless of how they are organized, and at the turn of the 20th century if you wanted a library you would write to Andrew Carnegie. Andrew Carnegie took the fortune he made in steel and turned it around to support libraries for everyone without looking at color. In areas of intense segregation, African Americans became fed up with the substandard quality of the library they were allowed to use as opposed to the library for white people. Carnegie would hear their complaints and then build a better library for the African Americans than the white people had. This was especially prominent in Houston, where his support led to the people negotiating with the city for an all-black board of trustees.…
Andrew Carnegie is a philanthropist of his time, and helped shape America for the better. Although I believe this to be true, it is not a statement made without appraisal or periods of ambivalence. In researching the world’s richest man, it’s easy to see him as the good guy in his youth, as a young man, and eventually in his retirement. It was during his industrial revolution where Carnegie seemed to be beside himself as a robber baron. Still holding his core beliefs and values throughout his lifetime, if seemingly only in creed at terms, he wanted those with wealth to enfranchise others.…
I live in Temecula and for many years, I had not seen the essence of having an estate planning attorney to help me with my estate and trusts. This was not until my dear friend, Robby, died in a car accident without any will or clear guidelines of how his estate would be handled upon his death. In addition to the grief that his family suffered, they also had to deal with several creditors who practically made their lives a living hell. Eventually there were a lot of wrangles between the family members as each one of them tried to hold on to a part of his estate.…
Andrew Carnegie, a first-class American who netted millions of dollars in the late 1800s, encouraged and inspired wealthy citizens, through his essays, to donate money to charities, public service agencies, educational institutions, and more. In his entire lifetime, he accumulated more than 390 million dollars, which would amount to over four billion dollars today. Ninety percent of that was donated to charities and foundations, supporting over 2,500 libraries and hundreds of venues for concerts and meetings. When he wrote The Gospel of Wealth, many other wealthy American citizens joined Carnegie’s endeavors. The Gospel of Wealth influenced many wealthy Americans to donate their excess money to universities and colleges.…
Triumphantly surpassing a poor childhood, Andrew Carnegie became the richest man in knowledge and wealth. Along with his fame came infinite philanthropy and his charitable heart kept giving. Carnegie no longer lives, but his impact on the United States of America in terms of how he changed average lives, as well as the mark he left in the world will forever reign. In light of the fact that walking past him in early years, a person would think that Carnegie was just a simple, poor Irish boy, inside was a hard worker with incredible drive and outstanding ability to learn any skill he set his mind to.…
John D. Rockefeller, a man who made himself known in the oil industry, was not only an oil tycoon and philanthropist, he was also America’s first billionaire. However, despite his vast wealth, Rockefeller grew up in simple beginnings. Born on July 8, 1839 in Tioga County, New York, John was the second of six children. His mother, Eliza, was extremely religious and taught him to place importance on God in his life and to give to charity while his father, William, worked as a “pitch man” and taught him about bookkeeping and accounting. Both teachings later proved beneficial as he slowly rose up the ranks from an assistant bookkeeper to the head of Standard Oil, a company he co-established with Samuel Andrews, William Rockefeller, and Henry Flagler…
Dave Ramsey’s Positive Effect on My Life Dave Ramsey has made a big impact on the way I look at my future life and money decisions. Taking his class has opened my eyes to the importance of financial awareness. Before I took his class I didn 't know the difference between a grant and a scholarship, and before I took his class this didn 't strike me as a problem. I now know the difference between a scholarship and a grant, and I have a better understanding of how to finance my future. This is all thanks to Dave Ramsey.…
Additionally, he did not depended on the products and services of other firms. Rockefeller produced its own oil, purchased pipelines and terminals, and operated its own transportation. The company controlled almost all aspect of the business and eliminated all the middlemen. He was not only famous for making himself an immense fortune, but he was also known giving much of his earning away to support education and medicine. After retiring, Rockefeller became one of the most well respected philanthropists, donating over five hundred and thirty million dollars to various benevolent causes.…
Andrew Carnegie’s American Dream For Andrew Carnegie, the name of the game was profit by any means necessary. Some may consider him an innovative businessman, yet others could call him a ruthless capitalist that would do anything to make a profit. No matter where Carnegie worked he was excellent at running a successful business. A prolific idea engrained in the minds of Americans since the turn of the century is the American Dream (Livesay 1).…
The giving pledge is a project led by Bill and Melinda Gates and Warrant Buffet, whose purpose is to give out of their money and help organizations and people, by donation half of their wealth to charities. These two billionaires asked other billionaires in the United States to do the same thing and donate half of their fortune to a charity of their interest. They are doing this project mainly to help other people and studies about vaccines, but also to show that they do not need all of their money and wealth. The text My Philanthropic Pledge by Warren Buffett, 2010, describes how Warren Buffet was so lucky that he got to where he is today.…
