Why Is Walter Fane Innocent

Improved Essays
I think Walter Fane is innocent because of his mother’s descriptions of him and the pleasantness he shows to Gwenda. Mothers usually know their children very well, and I would be surprised if Mrs. Fane really didn’t know her son that well. Additionally, there is only one instance in which he showed violence and a crazy temper. This was when his brother broke something he had worked so hard for. Walter was clearly very attached to Helen, and she broke his heart twice, but according to Mrs. Fane, Walter had wonderful self control, making it improbable that Walter would murder someone.
In conclusion, I believe that Major Erskine is innocent. Someone who was that in love with a woman would never kill her. Additionally, why would he want to? Erskine
