“I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what.” This quote is extremely inspiring to the reader and to the characters in the story. It shows that even though you may not be able to win a fight or a battle, you shouldn’t just give up. You should fight it and even if you lose, at least you gave it your best shot and you didn’t give up. Atticus is a extremely powerful speaker, and though he seldom says much, when he does they are hugely powerful words that can change lives. “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view - until you climb into his skin and walk around in it”(Lee 39). Scout who is so mad at what Miss Caroline says to her, doesn’t stop to think about her point of view and what she is coming from. Once Atticus gives Scout these wise words of wisdom she understands where Miss Caroline is coming from and she tries to be kinder to her due to Miss Caroline doesn’t know anything. Mr. Finch’s talk also helps mollify the nerves of Scout who is so scared she will never be able to read with Atticus again. Miss Maudie who is Jem and Scouts neighbor also is a powerful speaker who affects Jem and Scout with her words. “"There are just some kind of men who--who're so busy worrying about the next world they've never learned to live in this one, and you can look down the street and see the results.”(Lee 60). Miss Maudie tries to describe to Scout what foot washers are and she also is trying to explain the story of Boo Radley. Scout believes that Boo Radley is the blood sucking, insane man who looks in people's windows. After listening to Miss Maudie she for once sees that maybe the story of Boo Radley is not so much of what he did wrong, but that his parents were ashamed of his wrongs. Also, she learns that some people are so caught up about the next world they will be going to they do not think about the world they are living in now and how Nathan Radley is trying to keep up to the world standards of being a foot washer, by locking his son
