Within the twentieth century, various totalitarian regimes had taken control in countries across the globe. Germany’s Adolf Hitler and Italy’s Benito Mussolini gained power from their country’s political imbalance and financial struggles after WWI and through their citizen’s desperation and wounded nationalism. Germany, in particular, was entirely blamed for WWI and had to carry out the economic consequences by itself because of the Treaty of Versailles. Cuba and Russia’s fascist governments were established through violent means: Fidel Castro launched a coup d'etat in 1959 and Stalin eliminated all of his opposers in order to win through “elections”.…

A cause of conflict in world history is power control. Dictatorships and other totalitarian governments will have a single leader that will hold most or all the power. Giving all that power to one ruler will obviously cause major conflicts like war, power abuse, and problems like starvation and unright judicial punishment to people of said country. There has been totalitarian government since there has been governments, surprisingly enough, even today there are dictatorships in places like North Korea and Syria. One of the more famous examples of a dictator abusing his power is Adolf Hitler when he began to exterminate the jewish population for purely racist reasons.…

His policies and ideas were more liberal and he leaned towards a more democratic society, however there were various cases where his actions were oppressive that label him as an authoritative ruler. Tito is therefore a dictator, but his dictatorship was not in common regard of other oppressive rulers. Josip Tito was born the seventh of fifteen children in a peasant family from Croatia.…

This, and many other sources prove that a dictatorship will only lead to corruption and infection of the country and the people inside of it. In conclusion, absolute power corrupts a nation by trickling down through the ranks of people, corruption spreading like a disease. It is able to do this by giving the leader too much power to put their own needs before their own, inflicting their own twisted views on the common people, and considering all those who disagree a traitor to the nation.
