On the day following the dedication ceremony, newspapers all over the country reprinted President Abraham Lincoln’s speech. It did divide some though as the Republicans and Democrats had different opinions of it. The Republicans praised the speech as a heartfelt classic while the democrats thought of it as inadequate and inappropriate for the occasion. In later years the Address would become one of the most quoted and most memorized pieces of historical literature in American history. The reason it still matters today is President Abraham Lincoln rededicated the nation to the principle of human equality, and to a government that reflected that equality by advancing the economic interests of all Americans. Now most Americans understand and support President Abraham Lincoln’s vision but there are also those who oppose those principles for both racial and economic reasons. Even music today reflects the events of the civil war and President Abraham Lincoln’s belief that all men are created equal. We learn and analyze the speech in school to better understand his thought process and values. This speech inspired so many both now and then to dedicate our lives to the great nation we live in just as those before us
