Everyone who lives in America and tries to make it in America are all chasing their American dream. The American dream is the ideal that anybody may become successful and prosperous and freely mold their own destiny for themselves. They come to America thinking that they are able to become whatever they want to be. The puritans were English settlers who immigrated to America after they grew discontent with the English church and tried to have religious and social changes. In the puritans culture they believed that god’s word in the bible was the law and sought to create a society patterned after god's law. in the article Why Is The American Dream Dead in the South? written by Matthew O'Brien it discusses how certain individuals have an increased chance to reach their American dream than other and some a decreased chance depending on an individual's surroundings. The facts in the article reveal that that for centuries the American dream was dead and was not as attainable as many would believe. To achieve the American dream in the puritan society one had to follow and live their life through the bible, which is god’s law. in the article it mentions that the American dream is only alive in certain parts of the country. although these two ideas seem to believe that the American dream is somewhat alive, they are very different because in the article it goes on to say that not everybody shares the same opportunities like most would think, and in puritan society it is believed that anybody can achieve their dream if they were blessed by god and follow god's law. it shows that in the puritan culture and in the article the American dream is not something everyone can
