Texting Verses Phone Calling When Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone, he certainly didn't expect that decades later humanity would rather return to sending written messages. That is what has happened however, in the past few years; sending text messages rather than calling has quickly become the most accepted form of communication for humans. This rise in texting over phoning is due to a plethora of reasons, but no matter the cause, it is safe to say that texting is a much better way of communicating than calling. First of all, one advantage to texting is that it causes much less anxiety than phone calling. When talking on the phone, many people experience high stress due to the fear of being judged and criticized by the way they speak. This reaction has been classified as a type of social anxiety, and is so widespread that it is even known as a phobia, telephonobia. Texting, however, does not cause this same …show more content…
When one phone calls, often the people around them are able to hear their conversations and listen in. Especially in public, if a call needs to be made urgently, there is no way to guarantee privacy, as any passerby will be able to hear what is being discussed. Texting, on the other hand, allows whole conversations to remain between those who are involved, since no one is speaking aloud. No matter the location, texting allows people to say private and personal information confidently, without having to worry about someone listening in. Texting is a much better form of communication than phone calling. It is less stressful, causes less miscommunication, and has far more privacy than calling, while being just as efficient and effective at relaying messages. Whether it is used for personal, informal messages, or to send lengthy announcements between business associates, there is no doubt that texting deserves its place above the
