Why Is Tattoos Important In The Workplace

Many employers turn down a great candidate for the job because of visible piercings and tattoos but don’t consider their qualifications for the position. Discrimination in the workplace occurs every day due to body art. Businesses should not take body art into consideration when hiring a potential employee because body art is growing popular in all age groups, it doesn’t affect someone’s qualifications for the job, and they are a form of expression and should not be suppressed by employers. “About 73 percent of people get their first tattoo between 18 and 22 years of age, and an estimated 40 percent of Millennials have a tattoo” (Monty 1). Millennials are known as the group of humans who are born in the early 1980’s to early 2000’s. This shows that tattoos are becoming more popular for the youth. When they first walk into the shop they know the possible consequences tattoos come with. For the youth, the word tattoo has taken on a whole new meaning to previous generations.
