When we are young, we really don't know what the best thing for our future is. But that's why we have parents to help lead us in the right path to a bright future. What better way can children have to go on the right path? Summer reading programs for children is a great place to start. Elementary students should be allowed to receive reading programs during the summer in order to increase their reading levels and receive a better future. Summer reading programs are important because it can increase a child's reading level as Barbara Heyn said, “ more than any public institution including the schools, the public library contributed to the intellectual growth of children during the summer” (Importance of Summer Reading). Not only does it increase levels, but it also avoids any learning loss. As the National Institute of Education agreed, reading outside of school really does give children the achievement of reading ( Importance of Summer Reading). The child can ask questions about the reading just how they were taught in school giving the child to grow intellectually. It is “a valuable outreach tool for kids” , says CLA, or in other words its a distraction to keep children occupied (The Value of Summer Reading). Being able to read in front of different people can can have a great effect when reading out loud. Public reading can also lead to great pronunciation and helps the child speak in a fast pace. It helps them improve their reading comprehension which means understanding what they are reading about. As the child grows they should know who, what, when, and why they are reading. It also gives children the ability to boost their vocabulary. Searching for context clues around a word helps them understand the meaning of it.
