Why Is St. Elme An Abandoned Town

My location that I chose was St Elmo, an abandoned town. It was abandoned for the mining use of it it “dried up.” So it no longer allowed for any more much use. With the surrounding area surrounding with trees it make the perfect place to hunt for those brain zapped kids. (Well according to the book it is known as that.) This happen in the town of rule. The town had a forest around it, so the guards would go through the forest and patrol the perimeter of the town. The town has the problems that the chuckies (from book two in the series of novels) will start to get smarter.
