First off the government has something called a dual kingship. This means there are two kings, or two rulers that look over the whole civilization of sparta. Instead if the usual one king or ruler who does it. This shows that this civilization was complex because most civilizations of not just this time but throughout history if they had a king they only would have one at the most. This government was also very complex because of its believed to be first ever written constitution (¨Sparta). It was believed that this constitution was made by the lawgiver Lycurgus. This shows that sparta was complex because in this time no other civilization had thought up the idea of having a constitution. The Spartans were the first ones to think of this. We know that the idea of a constitution works as well in the country of United States uses one and it works out just fine. Sparta's government was also very militaristic. Where this civilization got its power was in its military. But not in the number of people it has. The warriors are well trained and have good tactics. Another very complex aspect of this government is that they had twenty eight elders to help out and also to restrict the power of the two leaders. The geography of the land add a civilization lives on can help or hurt the civilization more than you would think. say civilization did not live near any water source that can hurt the civilization in a big way. Ancient Sparta was located Southern / center Peloponnese. Sparta was surrounded on three sides by mountains. All so they could control all the mountain passes that other armies traveled through. This made the Spartan civilization a fortress. It was very hard to get into. This made Sparta complex because the way it was set up, it was practically impossible to attack Sparta without them knowing. Also if they did get attacked they would have much of an upper hand on the attackers. The fourth side of Sparta was bordered by the Sea. It was around 27 miles from the edge of Sparta. Giving it a gigantic advantage on the attacking armies. In the North Sparta was protected by hilly Uplands. Some of these Hills reaching over 1000 metres High. This makes the track from another country civilization to theirs very grueling and not an easy thing. This gave them a huge advantage on deterring other armies from their spot.
