Why Is Softball Important To Me

Softball has always held a special place in my heart mainly because of the valuable life lessons that it has taught me. I began playing softball when I was ten years old and it has been amazing seeing all of the different opportunities that I have been able to have since that time. I have been able to see myself grow as an individual and my team grow as a unit through various experiences. Through the skills that I have learned by dedicating myself to softball, I have been able to impact peoples' lives both on and off of the field. As is the case with most athletes, making improvements in one’s game takes time and determination to be able to achieve a desired level of success. I believe the leadership skills I acquired through playing softball has facilitated me being able to impact younger players. Every summer my school hosts a “Kiddie Camp”, where youth softball players, ages six to thirteen, can come have fun and learn more about the sport they love. What I enjoy …show more content…
In between summer responsibilities, I have had the pleasure to work alongside a team of volunteers for four years at a local hospital. This has provided me with the chance to serve patients and the hospital staff in different ways. As I am planning on perusing a career in the medical field, this has been a great way for me to both gain valuable experience as well as serve my community. This past summer I had the opportunity of a lifetime as I was chosen to represent my school in the Scotland Exchange Program. I was to spend two weeks overseas with a different family and my partner would spend the same amount of time over here. This was a huge test for me as I had never been outside of the country and was cautious about living in an unfamiliar place.
