Together we represented our school at leadership meetings hosted by other schools in our conference, and we discussed and planned ways to spark school spirit to allow everybody to

Playing softball taught me how to set my goals within my capabilities and taught me that in order to achieve those goals it takes more than physical work but mental toughness as well. Sometimes our biggest obstacles can be ourselves, and we can get in our own way of pursuing our goals and dreams. In order to be able to achieve goals, you have to show a work ethic beyond the average person. You have to show that when everybody else has the day off, you're willing to be that one person who is working hard. I never imagined that this could hold me back from something that I love so much and could possibly make my dreams of playing collegiate softball unreachable. I first began playing softball at only five years old.…

When you look back on pictures of your early childhood, you realize how much enjoyment you had in the past, playing the sport you loved. For me, it was playing softball ever since I was a little girl and watching my sister play ball and longing to be just like her. I remember the long Friday nights that I thought would never end because of practice or the early Saturday mornings waking up at six o’clock to be at the field ready for warm up for another full day of softball. Looking back on those times, I reminisce but do not regret any of those moments. It made me a better person inside and out; it allowed me to develop critical leadership abilities, communication skills, confidence and self-poise that still carry with me today.…

This is the mind set of every great softball player, and in order to have this mind set, players must acknowledge and appreciate the history of the sport. Understanding that softball is a unique sport with a rich history that has greatly impacted the world and has both influenced and been influenced by all of the people it involves is an important aspect of being successful in the sport.…

Re-entering the Game Based on past and current practice, softball should be brought back to the 2020 Olympics. Softball and baseball were recently removed after the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The International Olympic Committee, also known as the IOC, decided that they needed to lessen the number of sports in the Olympics and baseball and softball were among the first to be removed. From the first game in the Olympics in 1966, to the last in 2008, the only teams to ever win medals were the United States, Japan, China, and Australia. A major reason for the removal of softball was that out of all those medals the United States had the majority; three gold medals and one bronze (“Softball”).…

Several people often misconceive softball as being an effortless, female dominated sport that requires little to no skill. Some say that softball is just a sport in which you hit the ball and run through bases trying not to get out. People who have never played softball, let alone any other sport, will say that softball is made easier for females. Before I began to play softball, I too speculated that softball was one of the most basic sports there was. Speaking from experience, softball is quite challenging and tiresome.…
