There are a lot of sports in the world that millions of people can choose to participate in and/ or follow, whether if it is because they are forced to watch/ participate or if it is for their own interest. We all know that in America, some of the favorite sports nationwide are basketball and football, for the most part, but in reality, soccer beats all of them at a worldwide scale. But why? Why is soccer the most popular sport in the world? Well, it’s the most popular because of its history, simplicity of the game, and large numbers of engagement in it.
Football, or as we know it, as soccer, has been around for thousands of years. It has been said that the first findings of this sport have traced back to the 2nd and 3rd century B.C. China. (HistoryofSoccer) It was during the time period where the Han Dynasty was around, when many Chinese people started to play with and kick small, leather-sewn balls in between two end points, inventing this game. ( WorldAtlas) Early, modern soccer started to grow and expand in England, then people began to fall in love with this simple game of just putting a ball in the net without using your hands. This tournament reached 3.2 billion viewers and 1 billion people viewed the final championship match.
