Snowboarding trumps skiing
Over the past few decades ski areas have been split between skiers and snowboarders. People who are looking to hit the slopes for the first time have a big decision to make: buy/rent skies or a snowboard? Given these two options, I believe that first timers should take up snowboarding instead of skiing. Snowboarding has a cooler and more interesting culture, snowboarding is more practical, and snowboarding has better style than skiing. For these reasons it would be in someone’s best interest to choose snowboarding over skiing.
Snowboarding is cooler than skiing. Snowboarding comes from an amazing history of surfing and skateboarding. Cool people, both men and woman, shredding big waves, the roads and sidewalks …show more content…
There is the park rat look (baggy everything), the woodsman look (brown or black pants with camo or flannel jacket and work gloves), the backcountry rider (high end well fitted jacket and snow pants with backpack) and many many more go to looks. Skiers, for the most part, all wear the same clothes, plain black snow pants with a well fit jacket without hood. An uncool and uncreative outfit. Even if a skier is wearing a cooler outfit, commonly it's a look stolen from snowboarding culture or even created by a snowboarding manufacturer. Have you ever seen a skier walking up a set of stairs? Ski boots are much harder to walk in because the boots are clunky and rigid. Walking in ski boots is an awkward scene and if you were a snowboarder you would never have to ever deal with this inconvenience. As a skier, before you even get on the mountain or get your gear on you have to carry it to the lodge. For snowboarders you're already wearing your boots because they're comfortable and you can just grab your snowboard and clip your helmet to the binding and hold under your arm. It’s an easy, stress free process. Compared to a skier who is juggling their skis, poles, helmet, and boots. You're bound to drop something or hit something walking between the rows of cars. By the time you get in the lodge and drop all of your stuff, your snowboarding friend is ready to go and is waiting for you because he made the right decision to snowboard and was in the lodge five minutes before you. Another advantage to being a snowboarder is you don't have poles to worry about when you're riding or on the lift. There is no fear that you'll drop you pole and have to go get it, as well as you have your hands free to eat, play on your phone, or take your helmet off to get some fresh air. In regards to equipment, snowboarding offers much more convenience, and simplicity. As a snowboarder your equipment is less of a burden to yourself and less of a hazard to others.
