Sir Francis Drake: Pirate or Patriot?

Sir Francis Drake was a well known exploring English Sea Captain in the late 1500’s. Drake had many expeditions around the world and was actually one of the first Englishman to circumnavigate the globe. He was one of the most greatest explorers but was doubted by many even after his many accomplishments. In fact, one of the questions that still remain is “Was Sir Francis Drake a Pirate or a Patriot?” After much research I believe that Sir Francis Drake was more of a Patriot than a Pirate.

He led a number of expeditions around the world and was even named to be the first Englishman to travel the entire globe at sea. He had many names in his lifetime but one question that still surfaced around is “Was Sir Francis Drake a Pirate or a Patriot?” After much research I believe that Sir Francis Drake was more of a Patriot than a Pirate. A pirate is a person who attacks and robs ships at sea. And a patriot is a person who vigorously supports their country and is prepared to defend it against enemies or detractors. Sir Francis Drake was one to always support his home, Plymouth England. He went to war many times and always defended his people from day one when him and his men were attacked on his one of his first times at sea. I believe that he was more of a Patriot than a Pirate because of how he explored and what he did for the countries he explored. The reason I put he was A Patriot was because he defended his country and he believed in what he stood for. Although he was a illegal slave trader, he was one of the most successful explores that ever lived. Drake once said, “It isn't that life ashore is distasteful to me.
